Story One -- Baby of a
She Camel
Once a poor Bedouin had
need of a camel, clearly he had no means to buy one.
However, he heard of a open-handed man, by the name of
Muhammad, who was generally known to give away his
belongings. He decided to go approach him and ask him for
one. He set out of his village, and headed for Medina.
After finding out where
the Rasul (SAW) was situated, he immediately went to him.
When he found him, the Bedouin told him simply:
"I am a poor man, and I have no means to buy a camel.
Could I make a request for one from you?"
Rasul (SAW) was in a very
joyful mood, and was even more so by the Bedouin's
somewhat frank appeal. Rasul (SAW) smiled and told him:
"All right, I will give you the baby of a she-camel."
The Bedouin became very
perplexed.
"A baby she camel?" He asked. "What am I to do with that?
I require a full grown camel."
The Rasul (SAW) became
delighted once again by the Bedouin's bewilderment. Then
he told him with a smile:
"But isn't every camel; a baby of a she camel."
Everyone there began to
express amusement, and even the Bedouin, discovering the
joke, became jubilant. He thanked the Rasul (SAW) for his
munificence, and left with his new camel.
Story Two -- Old
People in Paradise
Once an old woman visited
the Prophet (SAW), and asked him to pray for her to be one
of the blessed inhabitants of Janna (paradise).
He (SAW) decided to kid
with her and he said:
"But old people won't enter Paradise."
The old woman became
astonished. She found she had become dumb of words to ask
him why Allah would take away the lush gardens of Paradise
(those that she longed for with all her heart) from the
elderly. She stared wordlessly at the ground, searching
for the answer to such injustice.
Meanwhile Rasul (SAW)
went for his prayers. The old woman could not contain
herself any longer. She began to weep, cry, wail, and
moan, foreseeing the hellfire that lay ahead for her,
because of the only sin she had committed "her old age".
Aisha (RA) tried her best
to ease her however the woman was downhearted. When
Rasulullah (SAW) returned from prayer, Aisha (RA) told him
that the women was crying ever since he had told her that
the old would not enter paradise.
The Rasul (SAW) smiled
saying:
"Please inform her that the old will be made young before
they would enter the Gardens."
As the Old woman was told
this, she stopped her crying at once, finally comforted.
She was even overjoyed by the Rasul (SAW)'s answer. She
had long lost her youth, her old health, and her beauty.
Now she thought of it as a distant memory, as she took
painful tiny steps, remembering the long miles she'd run
without diminishing her breath. She remembered her smooth,
glowing skin, her bright and clear eyes, and all the
aspects of her what seemed like long lost youth. She
realized that one of the mercies of Allah were the
allowance for the righteous to enjoy Jannah with young,
strong, and healthy bodies.
She praised Allah,
content with the Rasul (SAW)’s answer.
Story 3 --
Selling Zahir (ra)
Zahir (ar) was a
Bedouin tribesman. He was a close Sahabi of Rasulullah
(saw). Once while he was selling aome of his wares in the
open market of Madinah, Rasulullah (saw) passed by. He saw
that Zahir (ra) was so absorbed in his work that he was
unaware of his surroundings. Rasulullah (saw) sneaked up
from behind and hoisted him aloft.
"Who is it!" cried
Zahir (ra), twisting and turning in the strong grasp,
trying in vain to see who it was that held him?"
Then he heard
Rasulullah (saw) shout, "Here is a young bot for sale! A
young boy for sale! A young boy for sale! Who wants him?"
Zahir (ra) laughed
and replied, "O Rasulullah (saw)! Whoever buys a slave
like me will end up the loser."
